Reflected Mesa
The Mesa at the other side of the Reservoir is reflected in the still waters. Aquatic plants dot the surface but do not disturb the reflections. The south end of Nelson Reservoir is a water fowl nesting area, as well as a heron sanctuary. In the past several years the water level of the reservoir has been so low because of the drought that the nesting area was almost destroyed. 2008 was like the winters of old...with over 20 ft. of snow, and this summer has been heavy with rain, so the reservoir is back up to a healthy level. It's not uncommon to see eagles and osprey flying over head searching for fish (and the trout fishing is fabulous). This image has been described by an art lover as Monet-like.
