El Tovar
Described as the architectural crown jewel of the Grand Canyon, this hotel is made of native stone and Oregon pine and is fashioned after hunting lodges in Europe. It was originally the site of the stage coach stop. Architect Charles Whittlesey strove to create a hotel that would complement and not challenge the geologic wonder of the canyon, and in so doing created an early example of rustic architecture in a national park. The hotel is a registered National Historic Landmark.Taken from "the Grand Canyon Guide". 8-09
